Schildkröt
The German doll brand Schildkröt has been synonymous of traditional craftsmanship in doll making for several generations. Each of their dolls are made with love, care and a level of craftsmanship that you can appreciate and feel. Without a doubt, they are pioneers in the industry with more than 120 years of experience.
Their adventure began in 1896, when the company began manufacturing toys. By then, high-quality dolls were a luxury item that not everyone could afford and were typically made of porcelain, a very fragile material that was neither safe nor suitable for children.
The innovative idea of its founders to make celluloid dolls (a completely new material) meant a real revolution for the time, allowing for the first time a large-scale production of dolls for children that were washable, hygienic and very durable. Their new and robust design gave rise to the brand name "Schildkröt" (turtle in German), which refers to the strength of their bodies that seemed to be made of turtle shell.
By 1911, the brand had already established itself in the world market, giving way to a success story that continues to this day. Their first doll was named Badepuppe and it was a waterproof toy that children could bathe with. Despite the difficult war and postwar years, their legendary models Inge and Hans (1933), Strampelchen (1935), Bärbel (1937) and Christel (1938) became in 25 years the most purchased dolls in the history of the toy industry.
Schildkröt has wonderful limited editions of collectible dolls such as the Müller-Wichtel, created in collaboration with famous artists of the dolls world. These dolls feature fine craftsmanship and impressive details that are reflected in their faces and outfits. Furthermore, all its products, including clothing, are made in Germany from non-toxic and sustainably produced materials, resulting in high-quality collectible dolls crafted and designed for a long life of friendship with their owners.
If you have loved this brand and are looking to start a special and unique collection, at Dolls And Dolls you can find numerous models from their Müller-Wichtel doll collection, designed by the renowned German artist Rosemarie Müller. In addition, you can’t miss the brand Mariquita Pérez a brand with similar style dolls made in Spain. You will truly love their dolls and accessories!
