Rubens Barn
Rubens Barn started from a strong shared belief between two mothers that children should not leave their childhood in a rush. These special and incredible dolls are characterized by having a unique and artisanal design that always strives to maintain high quality materials. The accurate appearance, weight, and anatomical features add to a realistic feel. Not only are they fun to play during the day, but they are extremely cute and warm at night.
Ceramic designer Ewa Jarenskog had been successfully creating popular clay figures with emotional, childish and daring motifs, but they were not suitable for children to play with. So Ewa and her friend, clothing designer Teruko Wahlström, started their journey together to create their brand. Rubens Barn was born in 1998 and is named after Ewa's father (Rubens), who always dreamed of a large family.
The word "Barn" means children in Swedish, their main source of inspiration. Its creators felt excited to focus more on an emotional education that allows children to develop their empathy while playing and interacting with a Rubens Barn doll in order to later become more understanding and sociable adults.
During their adventure, the brand faced the great challenge of developing the ideal way to capture the expressions of Ewa clay models on soft fabric and create a friend who could last a childhood of play. Overcoming these challenges, along with strong beliefs in the importance of developing empathy through playing, have been the building guides at Rubens Barn to this day.
A Rubens Barn doll is created by hand in over 100 different steps. Their faces are sculpted in soft fabric for a more emotional and realistic look, while the eyes are embroidered and bring the dolls to life. All this, combined with their warm smiles, make the Rubens Barn dolls an irresistible companion.
